Abstract

Oroibidea is an online archive dedicated to victims and based on primary sources in which oral history plays a crucial role through the use of information technology. The project also seeks to harness technological advances in artificial intelligence while adhering to the original concept that underpins the archive, driving its growth and evolving it into a more interactive tool so as to continue working on the transmission of memory. This article presents the historical context in the autonomous region of Navarre, where the collective memory of the Spanish Civil War is being kept alive through the inter-generational transmission of public memory policies and broader promotional efforts. To continue this work on remembrance, the Navarrese Institute of Memory has committed to the widespread use of information technology with memory collections and has created the Oroibidea portal to encompass all sorts of documents – including interviews – around one central pillar (the victims). The institute intends to maintain its commitment to growing this portal not only from a quantitative point of view by incorporating new collections but also by integrating such disruptive technologies as artificial intelligence, which are going to bring about a paradigm shift in terms of both the management of such collections and also how this project in particular interacts with its users. Given the current state of this technology, the first steps will involve the oral memory collections and the initial results are expected in 2026.
