Abstract
The effects of legislation are not only determined by the preferences of governments drafting bills, and majorities in parliament passing them into laws, but also by administrations and courts implementing them. The Handbook of Public Policy Implementation focuses on this nexus, well understood by policy researchers, but often ignored by scholars of comparative politics. This handbook is the new standard in the subfield of policy implementation. It consists of 41 short articles, each containing the state of the art, major dependent and independent variables, and a short research agenda. It is useful for policy researcher, but likewise for scholars in other fields to gain a quick overview for a broad range of aspects. It covers the basic tenets of policy implementation, theoretical approaches to the policy process, implementation by the different branches of government, implementation in different political systems and implementation on different levels.
