» Profile of the Journal
PERIPHERIE provides interdisciplinary perspectives on politics, economy, culture and society in the unequal capitalistic post-colonial world. The journal both demands and promotes critical examination of and discussion between the global north and south, between science and movement, between theory and practice.
The articles discuss topics such as globalization, democratization, economic and ecological crises as well as racism, gender and class relations.
PERIPHERIE is a forum with theoretically grounded and empirically saturated contributions, providing detailed knowledge about the coherences in the global periphery for the current, often deficient globalization discourses.
The fundamental position of the editorial staff is one of criticism of power and the advancement of global emancipatory movements is its most important concern. The journal publishes original essays, which are double-blind peer-reviewed.
The name PERIPHERIE is based on the term pairing of center and periphery, which opens up possibilities of thinking about processes of impoverishment and inequality in the global south and north as structurally linked phenomena. This approach is, in the opinion of the staff, still relevant after 30 years, even though other concepts and schools of thought emerged as useful alternatives.
