» Profile of the Journal
Since the attacks of September 11, 2001 at the latest, the phenomenon of terrorism has become one of the central topics of security policy. In order to remedy the lack of solid information in German-speaking countries, the ISPK initiated the research project Jahrbuch Terrorismus in 2005.

Since 2006, the ISPK has been collecting its own statistics on terrorist attacks, which are published in this volume together with expert analyses on the most pressing topics.

Jahrbuch Terrorismus contains articles by renowned experts on pressing current problems, such as the development of al-Qaeda and the so-called “Islamic State”, the so-called Muhammad videos, the transformation of the mission in Afghanistan, so-called “green on blue” attacks and cyber terrorism. It also offers regional analyses of current focal points of transnational terrorism, particularly in the Middle East and on the African continent. It also examines various approaches to counter-terrorism policy, such as the deployment of armed forces in Germany, telecommunications surveillance and the use of armed drones.

The yearbook series also addresses social issues of threat perception as well as theoretical and methodological questions, for example on the characterization of the phenomenon of terrorism.
