» Open Access (OA)
Our authors are increasingly expressing their desire to publish and exploit their own journal articles in Open Access (OA). In times of shrinking library budgets, which are often blocked by expensive natural sciences journals, and increasing pressure from science policy on publishers and academics, OA is an important option for our authors and for us as a publisher.

The benefits of OA for you as an author are obvious:
» immediate accessibility worldwide (even when out of print)
» free access for readers
» legally compliant dissemination via digital platforms and OA repositories

» Open Express
In order to meet the desires of our authors, we have developed our Open Express offer, which allows us to make the print version of single articles of a journal issue available for OA immediately upon publication or after a delay (before the end of the usual 24-month embargo period) in exchange for a one-time payment.

There are three Open Express options:
1) upon publication: 799,00 EUR (including VAT) per article
2) in the first year after publication: 999,00 EUR (including VAT) per article
3) twelve months after publication: 399,00 EUR (including VAT) per article

The OA fees incurred may be covered by your institution. Further information on the OA representatives of German universities and research institutions can be found at the oa.atlas of the the project open-access.network.

» Embargo Period
The journal is published with a 24-month embargo period. This means that every issue will be provided for OA 24 months after the date of publication.

» Creative Commons License
All OA content of the journals of Verlag Barbara Budrich published as of 01.01.2021 is authorized by a CC BY 4.0 license. This license includes dissemination, electronic storage, editing and reproduction, if: (a) information on the copyrights, the license and reference to editing are appropriately provided.

» Preprint Version/Original Manuscript Version
You are allowed to upload the preprint version/original manuscript version (submitted version prior to peer review process) of your scholarly article to digital platforms, your personal website or the website of your institute, and/or deposit it in repositories at any time after the initial publication at Verlag Barbara Budrich.
