Abstract
Abstract
The article deals with the current challenges of sexuality and relationship education (SRE), which refers to narrowed sexuality-related knowledge. While approaches to diversity focus primarily on building acceptance and tolerance, difference-sensitive SRE systematically addresses inequality and power relations that seep into knowledge about sexuality, desire, race, gender and class and thus significantly shape and limit SRE lessons for students. Thus, content for SRE is discussed in a way that is narrowed down to certain sexualities and/or reproduces stereotypical assumptions about non-white, non-middle class, non-heterosexual people. It is that sexuality and SRE are linked to difference, power relations and violence, which require critical consideration in terms of a reappraisal, prevention work, but also professionalization that enables teachers to reflect on the (biographical and cultural) history of sexuality.
