Abstract
The civil service is essential for the performance of public administration. The compendium presents the current situation concerning relevant aspects of public personnel in European countries (both EU and non-EU). It is an outstanding source of information on individual national systems (15 chapters) as well as selected crosscutting issues (36 chapters). The comparative approach reveals common understandings and approaches, as well as significant differences in structures, human resource management and other topics. Responses to current changes in public administration’s environment are being developed under the topic of ‘transformation’.
