FuG – Zeitschrift für Fußball und Gesellschaft sees itself as an interdisciplinary publication for academic texts that address soccer and its relationships to the everyday lives of people and their society in theoretical and/or empirical terms.

With changing thematic focuses, it promotes a broad interdisciplinary dialogue and sees itself as a platform for both current and fundamental discussions and clarifications. The thematic spectrum includes soccer as a socially and culturally relevant phenomenon.

Cultures, practices and emotions of fans in the context of sporting events are of interest, as is the significance of soccer in its production of social categories and phenomena. These include gender, age, disability, and migration, and subsequent questions about participation, social order, economization, micro- and macropolitics, organization, transnationalization, or deviance. The central bracket of these questions are national and international soccer events in regular operation or in event form, soccer in the professional, amateur and leisure sectors, organizations of soccer as well as the social perception, reception and function of the events and organizations also in their action-relevant contexts for the people involved.

Authors are cordially invited to participate in the sociological discussion of soccer and to respond to the calls issued twice a year. Theoretical debates and controversies are welcome, as are empirical studies from sociology, social psychology, education, politics, culture, media, social and sports science, and (sports) economics. Beyond the topic of the respective call for papers, FuG accepts free contributions on a permanent basis (please contact the editorial office in advance in this regard).

FuG publishes papers regardless of academic status and position solely on the basis of their originality and quality. All contributions are peer-reviewed in a double-blind review process. Only unpublished original contributions are accepted.

The journal is published two issues per year by Verlag Barbara Budrich both in print and digitally. The articles will be available in open access for two years after publication.

FuG is and will remain permanently independent in terms of sports policy. It will not publish any sports or association policy announcements or demands.
