Plastisches Kräftemessen Shklar, Arendt, Nietzsche und die Politik der Ideengeschichte

Abstract
Even before Arendt scholars started to discuss Nietzsche’s influence on Hannah Arendt’s work in the 1990s, the liberal political theorist Judith Shklar had already highlighted this connection in various texts from the 1950s onwards. This article argues that Shklar’s interpretation of Nietzsche was fundamental to her understanding of Arendt. As a result, she never engaged with Arendt’s work without questioning its implicit political dimension. Until the mid-1970s, Shklar focused primarily on the antiliberal motifs in Arendt’s work. Later, her attention turned to narrative forms in the history of ideas.
