Markus Hinterleitner is an assistant professor of public administration and political institutions at IDHEAP (Swiss Graduate School of Public Administration) at the University of Lausanne. His research focuses on comparative politics, the analysis of political institutions, and administrative research. He is the author of the monographs Policy Controversies and Political Blame Games (Cambridge University Press, 2020) and Blaming Bureaucracy—Reckoning with a Problematic Political Activity (Oxford University Press, 2025), as well as co-editor of the anthology The Politics and Governance of Blame (Oxford University Press, 2024). His work has been published in Perspectives on Politics, European Journal of Political Research, Comparative Political Studies, Governance, Regulation & Governance, Public Administration Review, Journal of European Public Policy, Journal of Public Policy, Policy Studies Journal, West European Politics, and Political Studies, among others. He completed his doctorate at the University of Bern in 2018 and subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, Brown University, and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.
