Abstract
Artificial Intelligence and Research Ethics – A Pragmatic Perspective
Artificial intelligence (AI) presents new opportunities for research, including the ability to process large datasets and generate hypotheses, but it also requires a critical evaluation of its reliability. Data protection laws, such as the GDPR and the EU Artificial Intelligence Act, set clear guidelines, particularly for safeguarding personal data. AI can assist in various stages of the research
process, from literature review to data analysis, yet its results must be rigorously assessed. Labeling AI-generated content is essential to ensure scientific transparency and clearly distinguish original intellectual contributions. Given the rapid pace of technological advancements, research institutions should provide ongoing training to address ethical and legal challenges appropriately.
