Der Beitrag befasst sich mit der Eventisierung und öffentlichen Inszenierung von Heiratsanträgen und den dort ausgespielten Machtverhältnissen der Geschlechter. Durch den Kapitalismus und die damit verbundene Veränderung des europäischen Konzepts der romantischen Liebe sowie die heutige Instabilität von Partnerbeziehungen entwickelte sich der öffentlich inszenierte Heiratsantrag. Anhand von vier populären Anträgen im Internet wird gezeigt, dass diese Art des Antrags das traditionelle Rollenmuster von Mann und Frau verstärkt.

The publicly enacted marriage proposal: romantic utopia or emotional manipulation?

Summary

This article deals with the popularity of publicly staged and enacted marriage proposals and the power relations between the sexes that they imply. It is argued that the instability of relationships and the emphasis on romantic love is a direct result of capitalism and the reason for the “eventization” of the proposal. Further, based on four example video clips, it will be demonstrated that this kind of proposal demands and emphasizes the traditional defi nition of gender roles and even poses a threat to women.
