Abstract
Composting methods ec(h)ologically: Doing collective with more-than-human assemblages
This article reflects on the possibilities of feminist, transformative and sustainable science and employs an experimental and compostistic research practice through a collective (writing) process. By critically examining traditional, predominantly rationalist and objectifying methods, this collective does not seek novel solutions, but rather works through and takes responsibility for in/consistent answers. Following Donna Haraway’s conceptual framework, compost is a deliberate effort to establish practices of knowledge production and world creation that shift the focus away from the human to conceptualize and think with practices within non-human and more-than-human assemblages. In the course of this article, visions of climate justice, a stone museum, stimulants in art practice, digital game characters and more-than-textual companions converge. Thus, our compostistic dialogue explores potential connections between compost, sustainability, care-taking and transformative science.
