Abstract
Der Beitrag analysiert die ökonomischen Folgen langfristiger Leistungsbilanzungleichgewichte. Anhaltende Defizite begünstigen industrielle Erosionsprozesse und technologische Rückstände, während Überschüsse zwar produktivitätsfördernd wirken können, aber nur dann, sofern sie nicht auf einer Strategie der Lohnzurückhaltung zur Steigerung der internationalen Wettbewerbsfähigkeit beruhen.
